What Wine Goes with Chicken?

Although most people feel that chicken should be eaten with white wine, some reds go well also. The type of wine you choose depends on how the chicken is cooked and seasoned.

Some white wines which easily go well with all chicken are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc or Pinot Gris/Grigio.

If you are cooking up fried chicken, try a Beaujolais or fruity Zinfandel.

If you are roasting chicken, try Cabernets, Merlots or Bordeaux blends. Adding a little herbs and garlic to season your chicken really helps this wine and chicken pairing.

Baking chicken and using a lighter sauce definitely calls for a white wine.  A good match here would be Sauvignon Blanc.

If you are making a tomato based chicken dish, your best bet would be a French Medoc or a Cabernet Sauvignon.

Finally, if you are going for a barbecue chicken dish or a heavily seasoned meal, stick with a strong, fruity red wine.
